Has Your XM Reception Become Flaky?
I spend almost three hours a days traveling to and from work. When I bought my first XM receiver 18 months ago, I wondered why I didn’t buy it sooner. No more repetitive commercials. No more knuckle-heads-in-the-morning. Immediate alerts to songs and artist that I like to hear. My commute now ranks much better than that of having prickly heat!
Last night reminded me of how much I’ve come to depend upon my XM radio. As I drove home, the reception began fading in and out. Several times I lost the signal. Is there anything more annoying than having your favorite song cut out for a few bars then return? You know, those few seconds where you suddenly realize that you’re singing by yourself. And embarrassingly horrible at that! In any case, I feared that my radio was on the verge of dying. What was I going to do?
This morning, I received an email from XM that said
“You may be experiencing temporary degraded performance with your XM reception at the present time. XM is aware of the issue and working diligently to resolve it as soon as possible. We anticipate full signal strength will be restored by early Tuesday morning.”
I guess 6 AM must be early, early morning because I still had sporadic reception as I drove in. Still, I am glad that it is them and not my equipment.
Just in case, you have XM but didn’t get their email, I just wanted to pass it along to you. I can’t wait until XM and Sirrus merge and I am overwhelmed by station choices … assuming their signals work, of course.

At least they had the curtousy (yikes! I can’t think how to spell that) to let you know. My sis just installed Sirrius and she loves it. Sheesh, I don’t know how to spell that either. Off for more coffee!
Thanks for sharing this information! I thought I had fried my XM as I leave it in the car during the day. All I could imagine the culprit to have been, was the heat! I was sure it was ruined
So glad to hear it was an XM glitch in an update and not my radio melting in the heat of the car! Like you, I love my XM and the chance to escape the local stations for a refreshing break. Having been XM’s first LCR Email Administrator in 2001-2002, I love my XM! As soon as it launched we all had a good feeling about its success! Maybe someday soon we’ll take a trip up to HQ to see how much it has grown … interested?
