XP System Restore Messes Up Dragon Naturally Speaking
I’ve grown quite fond of using Dragon Naturally Speaking version 9 (DNS) to dictate my posts whenever I can. It has definitely reduced the time of taking my thoughts from stream-of-conscious mode to a blog entry. Great that is until last Friday. I started up DNS and got a message “The vocabulary you have chosen ‘General – Large’ is incompatible.” It took a while to search online for a reason and a solution. The reason for the error was due an system restore that I had to perform the previous day to get XP up and working after a bad crash. Apparently, the XP Restores routine ALWAYS corrupts your user files. Fortunately it was a simply matter of going into my DNS profile directory, renaming my user profile name to ‘old’ and the backup directory to my user profile name. All is well now!

Thanks for the share. I have trained DNS for months and now it just won’t start thanks to a system restore I had to do. I really hope this works.
Hello Toufel! Let me know if you have any problems. Hopefully, my post will have helped you. Thanks for visiting!
Thanks a lot. I tried it but was getting some weird error messages. My computer was infected and that’s the reason I had to do a system restore. The problem wasn’t fixed and then I had to use some anti-virus softwares for the job. Maybe one of them messed up some files in the installation directory. Anyways I appreciate your help. I’m going to be one of your regular visitors now
